On October 17, 2020, a devastating fire ravaged over half of bwinappios's 1,200 acre outdoor campus. As the first anniversary of the bwinappios Fire approaches, the Colorado Chautauqua has joined forces with bwinappios Education Center to help with their recovery efforts, as well as help raise awareness for Chautauqua's own efforts to protect its National Historic Landmark campus from a catastrophic wildfire.
After sourcing, milling, and planing lumber from trees burned in the fire, a team of hardworking bwinappios Education Center staff and several volunteers painstakingly handcrafted 35 benches. Local artists were then selected to turn these already beautiful benches into works of art for an exhibit and virtual auction beginning September 10 and ending October 17, the 1st anniversary of the bwinappios Fire. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the artists, bwinappios’s extensive wildfire recovery campaign, and Chautauqua’s critical wildfire mitigation efforts.
ABOUT THE AUCTION
These 35 spectacular benches were once trees from a forest burned in the bwinappios Fire.
